This November, along with 5 new council members, MIFFS director Michelle Naiper-Dunnings was elected to serve on the National Sustainable Organization Council. The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is an alliance of grassroots organizations that advocates for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities.
According to the NSAC website, the Organizational Council governs the affairs of NSAC. Along with the NSAC Executive Director, the Organizational Council establishes the NSAC mission, oversees strategic planning and development, evaluates NSAC’s effectiveness, and provides financial oversight and approval of the annual budget. The Organizational Council also approves membership applications to NSAC. Nominated and elected by both Represented and Participating Members, members of the Organizational Council serve two-year terms and meet at least bi-monthly.
Michelle will serve on the NSAC committee, working on national policy, and will be a voice for the needs of our beginning and historically underserved farmers here in Michigan.
