Buy Local Campaign

Buying locally grown food is good for consumers, growers, and the economy.

When you Select Michigan, you:
- Get fresh, nutritious food
- Support your local growers
- Benefit and Strengthen your community

There are many ways that you can obtain fresh and organic foods:

Encourage your neighborhood grocer and chef to buy local food!
When you shop and dine, ask which foods are Michigan grown so you can eat fresher produce all the time. Spending just $10 a week on local foods at a grocery or restaurant will strengthen the local economy and support Michigan growers.

Shop at Farmer's Markets!
More then 85 Farmers' Markets in Michigan provide city and town folks with farm-fresh products. To find the market nearest you call Sandy Hill at 517.241.0194 or visit the Michigan Department of Agriculture Web site. You can also visit http://www.farmersmarkets.msu.edu.

Join a CSA!
Members of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) partner with a farmer to receive a weekly "share" of the harvest. About 35 CSAs are located in Michigan. For a CSA in your area, contact Laura DeLind at 517.355.7490 or visit the CSA Web site.

Sponsor a Local Foods Event where you work and play!
Meet grocers and enjoy a variety of Michigan seasonal and locally grown food at your next event. To find out more call MIFFS at 517.432.0712.
