Michigan Food & Farming Systems-MIFFS collaborated
with key partners USDA Risk Management Agency & Farm Research
Cooperative Partnership, Natural Resources Conservation Service
and Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative, to host the 2006 Michigan
Family Farms Conference at the McCamly Plaza Hotel in Battle Creek
on March 17 - 18, 2006.
This was the third Michigan Family Farms Conference
that these partners have hosted.
Sessions on successful strategies
for improving farm operations and sustainability and Pasture-based
grazing sessions were new additions to the conference this year and were a great success, attracting many new participants.
Roundtable discussions with speakers and featured farmers provided plenty of opportunity for networking and allowed attendees to make valuable contacts.
U.S. Congressman Joe Schwarz and State Conservationist Jack Bricker spoke to participants at lunch about alternative energy and agricultural stewardship. Read more...
