MIFFS and MIFMA Now Offer Liability Insurance at Discounted Rates to Members

March 11 , 2008MIFFS and MIFMA offer group liability insurance rates for their members

Michigan Food & Farming Systems - MIFFS and the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA) have secured a special group rate for liability insurance for our member farmers markets and farmers/vendors.

Vendor liability insurance, provided by Advanced Insurance Markets, Ltd. and underwritten by Westfield Insurance, gives coverage to farmers and vendors who sell their products at farmers markets.  This insurance will provide $1 million in general and product liability while vending at the farmers markets listed on the application form.  Individuals must be residents of Michigan, but coverage is available at all locations listed.  The $300 premium provides coverage from April 1, 2008 through March 31, 2009.  Once insurance is purchased, the premium is fully earned and non-refundable.

Farmers market liability insurance is designed for farmers markets specifically and will provide $1 million in liability coverage.  The premium of the markets would be determined by the estimated gross annual receipts and prices will vary slightly based on territory throughout the state.

Remember, only MIFFS and MIFMA members are eligible for this coverage, so now is the time to join!  Make sure that you have the support you need and, in turn, support local food and family farms in your community.

If you are not yet a MIFFS member and want to join, or would like more detailed information about this liability insurance opportunity, contact the MIFFS office at (517) 432-0712 or miffs@msu.edu, or join online.  To join MIFMA, visit www.farmersmarkets.msu.edu or contact Dru Montri, MIFMA Project Manager, at (517) 432-3381 or dnmontri@msu.edu
