MIFFS Announces its First Ever Food and Farming Photo Contest

August 27 , 2009 - MIFFS is excited to announce our first ever Food and Farming Photo Content in search of photos that tell the story of Michigan agriculture and family farms.
Please share your photos with us that embody our vibrant local food systems and focus on the rich diversity and heritage of Michigan agriculture and family farmers. Michigan agriculture has such an amazing story to tell, so use your imagination and be innovative!

Your submitted photos will be featured in the newly redesigned MIFFS Brochure and in other media, including newsletters, flyers, posters, the MIFFS display and on the MIFFS website. We will choose four winners – one for each of MIFFS Core Strategies:

  • Assisting family farmers, including limited resource (multicultural), underserved farmers to develop entrepreneurial business, marketing, production and management skills to sustain their farming operations.
  • Growing market opportunities by linking consumers, communities and farmers.
  • Supporting agricultural stewardship and sustainable production.
  • Informing and influencing public policy and institutional decisions that impact family farms.

Winners will receive one free year of MIFFS membership for new members, or a free one-year renewal for current MIFFS members. Photos beyond the four finalists may still be used in MIFFS media and publications.

Please submit photos by Wednesday, September 30 via e-mail with MIFFS Photo Contest as the subject line to buckhame@msu.edu, or by mail to MIFFS, Attn: Photo Contest, 172 Natural Resources, East Lansing, MI 48824. Please note that photos submitted by mail will not be returned. Photos must be high resolution in JPEG format and no larger than 10 MB file size per photo.

With each entry, please include:

  • Name of the photographer
  • Subject name and location
  • The date the photo was taken
  • A short caption (up to three sentences) describing the photo
  • Your phone number
  • Your e-mail address

By submitting your photos, you give MIFFS permission to use them in print or electronically. Photographers and subjects will receive credit in all photos used in any MIFFS media or publications.
