Wecelebrated Michigan farmers and local food again this year with three special "Select Michigan Day" farmers markets on the Capitol lawn and at Eastern Market in Detroit.
- Thursday, July 23, 2009 on the Capitol lawn in Lansing
- Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Eastern Market in Detroit
- Thursday, September 17, 2009 on the Capitol lawn in Lansing
Each market will take place from from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine! We're expecting more than 50 vendors from all across the state for this upcoming market on Thursday, September 17 on the Capitol lawn, all selling their Michigan-grown and processed agricultural goods.
You can celebrate local food, too, in your own community. Here are some ideas...
Michigan Food & Farming Systems (MIFFS) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) Select Michigan program, with support from the Michigan Farmers’ Market Association (MIFMA), Detroit Eastern Market, Slow Food Detroit and the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM), are partnering together to keep momentum going in Michigan for local food!
“Select Michigan Day” has gained tremendous momentum over the past three years as more consumers are realizing the taste, health and economic benefits of buying local products.
Here, you can find out about events going on around the state, how you can host your own event and other ways that you can get involved. You can also read about past years' successes.
